Of all the unique stores of land only a single existed before described in the Bible, the Flood. Five thousand years ago the Sumerian king made a journey to this place in search of immortality. In 1998 I came here with a group of fans to find out why the Sumerians called this place "the place of landing, and who built a fortress of gigantic stone blocks, which has no analogues in the whole world.

Today it is a place called Baalbek, or "lord owned the valley." The ancient Greeks called it Heliopolis, or City of the Sun. In Phoenician myths, it is called "Rock Zafona" (this word has the meaning "north" and "secret"), a place where there were a secret sanctuary god Baal. The Bible refers to it as Beit Shemesh, or "monastery Shamasha" of the sun god. A Sumerian king, who visited here before everyone called it a "landing" - what a place it really is.
Gilgamesh was the fifth king of the dynasty, which the gods have entrusted to be the kings and the High Priest (or both simultaneously) Sumerian city of Uruk, which the Bible calls the city of kings Erehom. As the founder of the dynasty Meskiaggasher, Gilgamesh was a demigod, but unlike the predecessors, which have been the father of the gods, the goddess was the mother Ninsun. Sumerian artists depicted, and Gilgamesh, and his mother on cylindrical seals.
Noteworthy that due to the fact that the mother of Gilgamesh was a goddess (his father was a High Priest Uruk), it felt even demigod, a two-thirds god. When he grew up and began to think about life and death, then turned to his mother and to the god Utu / Shamashu with the question of why he is not immortal, if in his veins flows the two-thirds divine blood. After explaining that the gods created man and gave him the knowledge, but not immortality, in Uruk "stone fell from the sky." It felt heavenly sign that Gilgamesh will be given an opportunity to gain immortality. He was told that it would need to come to the "landing" and fly to heaven to reach the monastery of the gods.
The story of the first known search for immortality, we know as "The Tale of Gilgamesh." Initially, these were the memories of the king, written in the Sumerian language and then translated into Akkadian, and other ancient languages. The best preserved Akkadian (Babylonian and Assyrian) version recorded on twelve clay tablets. It describes not one but two trips, the first was committed to a "landing place" in the cedar mountains. The Middle East is the only place that would fit under that description - the famous cedar forests of Lebanon.
Gilgamesh was said that the "secret place of the gods" in the cedar forest is accessible only through a tunnel, which protects the entrance to the fierce, spew fire monster. Difficult for even the fact that in the forest lived heavenly bull, a sacred animal Enlilya. Concerned for his son, Ninsun talked android Enkidu to accompany and protect Gilgamesh.
The trip was noted striking incidents, veschimi dreams and attempts to convince Enkidu Gilgamesh to abandon his idea. But Gilgamesh is not to retreat. "If I hear of defeat - he said - people who at least remember that I tried." Finally, the travelers came to porosshie cedar mountain.
